Serviced Apartments in Costa Calma

Costa Calma is a small village and beach resort towards the southern tip of the island of Fuerteventura, one of the more easterly Canary Islands. Arriving at the international airport on the island, Costa Calma holiday apartments are approximately 40 miles and about an hour taxi or transfer away. Another of the many fishing villages which has found new life as a tourist destination, it is best known for its long beach and excellent watersports conditions.

The main development of the resort as a destination for sun loving tourists began in the late 1970s with the building of holiday rentals in Costa Calma, as well as bars, restaurants and shopping facilities. More revitalisation and building continued in 2003/2004 producing even better facilities in this small resort. The general transport infrastructure to Costa Calma and the surrounding area has also undergone improvement, making exploring the southern tip of the island easier.

Of course, the beach is the main reason many tourists arrive in Costa Calma. The main beach is called Playa Barca and is to the south west of the main resort. Because of its size, it rarely becomes too busy or crowded, even in the height of the summer season. The beach is within easy reach of Costa Calma city centre apartments as the resort is quite a compact one. Tourists must be careful when swimming in the area as it is known for its strong offshore winds; however, this does make it one of the best spots in the whole island chain for windsurfing.

The resort is very popular among German tourists, but there are also British tour operators promoting Costa Calma. This gives the resort a rather European feel, and it is common to hear English, German and Spanish all been spoken on the main streets. As well as the high quality apartment rentals in Costa Calma, there are also plenty of restaurants serving both Spanish and international cuisine. There are also quite a few bars, a couple of night clubs and plenty of souvenir shops and convenience stores.

For a day trip away from your Costa Calma serviced apartment, try travelling further south to the bottom of the island, passing through Risco del Paso and Marabu. You will eventually arrive at Morro del Jable where there is a ferry port with trips to the nearby island of Gran Canaria, as well as general sightseeing tours of the coast.
