Serviced Apartments in Tarifa

Tarifa is a small town on the south coast of Spain, about one hour west of the Rock of Gibraltar. The town has a population of around 18,000 people and is actually the southernmost point of both mainland Spain and continental Europe. The town is well known for its mediaeval and other historical architecture, watersports activities and wonderful Mediterranean climate. There is an excellent selection of short-term apartments in Tarifa available all year round for those looking for a traditional Spanish beach holiday.

The main town beach is called Playa los Lances and is a large beach suitable for traditional swimming and sunbathing, as well as watersports such as windsurfing. Also easily accessible from Tarifa holiday rentals is the small beach of Playa Chica; also excellent for swimming, it is the southernmost beach of mainland Europe and also excellent for snorkelling. Playa Valdevaqueros is the main beach for windsurfing and kite surfing, with two surf centres found here. All in all, there are at least eight very good beaches of various sizes to enjoy around the town.

Tarifa also has plenty of evening entertainment, with an excellent selection of bars and clubs open every night. The entertainment areas are spread between the old and new parts of town, and in traditional Spanish, style things don't really get going until almost midnight. Cafe Central is one of the most popular bars, with excellent tapas and drinks to enjoy. Close to many apartment rentals in Tarifa is Cafe del Mar; one of the newest bars in town, it is spread over three floors and has a wonderful atmosphere.

For fans of architecture and history, the remains of the old mediaeval walls can still be seen in the town, with the 13th century Puerta de Jerez entrance to the town still standing. Also a popular attraction is the Guzman Castle; built by the Moors in 960 AD, the castle has been very well preserved and is worth a few snaps. For a day trip away from your serviced accommodation or self-catered apartment in Tarifa, travel to the ruined Roman city of Baelo Claudia, about 15 miles down the coast.

The average temperature in Tarifa for the year is just over 17°C, with temperatures in July and August reaching around 24°C. Being so southerly located, even in January and December visitors can expect temperatures around 13°C. This wonderful weather makes short stay apartments in Tarifa a year-round possibility.
