Estonia

The national anthem of Estonia is called "My Fatherland, My Happiness and Joy" and this should give you good idea of the pride Estonians feel for their country. Independent since just 1991, Estonia is a youthful and forward-thinking country becoming more and more popular with tourists. It is situated in the north of Europe with Russia to the east, Latvia to the south and Finland to the north. Indeed, Helsinki is just 50 miles away from the Estonian capital Tallinn across the Gulf of Finland. With weather milder than much of northern Europe, the coastal areas to the north tend to be warmer than the rest of the country to the south.

It is often said that the architecture of the country represents a veritable travel through time. Tallinn is home to some of the most well preserved mediaeval buildings in the world and many of the region's oldest churches. Serviced apartments in Estonia outside of the capital are fantastic for exploring the country's wildlife and national parks. The largest of these is the Lahemaa National Park which is actually close enough to the capital for a day trip. Visiting during the winter, many tourists make use of the excellent skiing and snowboarding facilities in the more mountainous regions.
