Serviced Apartments in Nerja

There are many famous towns and holiday destinations along Spain's Costa del Sol, but Nerja may not be one many people outside of the country are familiar with. This is a city of just over 20,000 people located less than an hour's drive away from the largest city on the coast, Malaga. The city has a strong ex-pat community with many Europeans deciding to spend the winter in Nerja or even moving to the city permanently. During the summer months, the population increases noticeably and as such there are many holiday rentals in Nerja to deal with the influx.

The exact age of the city is not precisely known but is one of the chief attractions in the area certainly provides food for thought. The Caves of Nerja are located on the outskirts of the city and are not only its most popular tourist destination, but one of the most popular in all of Spain. In these caves have been found ancient skeletons, cave paintings, and tools used by inhabitants over the last 25,000 years. This wonderful tourist attraction can be reached by public transport from any Nerja self-catered apartment or serviced residence and is certainly worth the journey.

In the city itself, there are plenty more wonderful sights to see such as the 17th-century Hermitage of las Angustias, a baroque style monastery with plenty of character. Also close to many apartment rentals in Nerja is the Church of El Salvador; another 17th-century building in the baroque style, this time with Moorish and Mudéjar influences. Getting around the city and seeing these attractions is not difficult, but Nerja is certainly not a flat city and much of it is built on quite hilly terrain.

Don't forget, Nerja is a coastal town and has a number of attractive beaches set amongst bays and coves and at the bottom of the areas customarily cliffs. One particular activity the city is well known for is scuba-diving; there are a host of operators in the area offering learners and more experienced divers great underwater locations to explore. When going to the beach you can either walk from your Nerja aparthotel or catch one of the local bus services which cover the majority of the city.

As always, it is a great idea to explore the surrounding towns and villages where you will often find more traditional Spanish lifestyle. There are plenty of options but the nearby town of Frigiliana is an interesting choice, having a remarkable historic centre and ninth century castle among its attractions.

Serviced and self-catered apartments, flats, holiday lets and aparthotels can be up to 30% cheaper than most equivalent hotel rooms and are becoming increasingly popular due to the freedom they offer.
