Freezing temperatures and snow are not uncommon during the winter making the country generally better for summer travel. Outside of the capital, there is some beautiful Polish countryside in and around the Tatra Mountains and Białowieża Forest. The latter of these is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to wild European Bison, Europe's heaviest land mammals. There are also many other very interesting smaller towns and cities to visit such as Wrocław with its stunning town hall, and Malbork Castle, one of the largest castles in the world.
