Serviced Apartments in Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de Compostela is the capital city of the Spanish region of Galicia in north west Spain. The city has a population of around 95,000 people and is a hugely important religious location for Roman Catholics in Spain and across the world. There is as much history, culture and heritage to explore in this city as any other in the country. Holiday rentals in Santiago de Compostela are available all year round but are especially busy during the end of July, during the celebration of St James' day.

The Way of Saint James is a mediaeval pilgrimage route ending at the city's cathedral which has been undertaken since the ninth century. The remains of the apostle Saint James are believed to be buried beneath the cathedral, making this as important a location as Rome or Jerusalem to many Roman Catholics. As previously stated, although the pilgrimage takes place all year round, short stay apartments in Santiago de Compostela become particularly busy during Saint James’ Day, on the 25th of July.

The 12th century cathedral itself is found in the Old Town and is a hugely impressive Gothic style building. Over 100 m in length, 70 m wide and with two spires, it is a huge and dramatic looking cathedral, dominating the city. The Old Town area is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there are numerous landmarks and monuments to visit, dating back many centuries. Although most of the holiday apartments in Santiago de Compostela are found in the more modern parts, most are within walking distance of this area.

With the sightseeing attractions of the city dominated by Roman Catholicism, it is no surprise that the second most famous landmark is the Abbey of San Martín Pinario. This 15th century Benedictine monastery is one of the most important Baroque buildings in all of Spain. Also easy to reach from Santiago de Compostela holiday lettings, the building now houses an excellent museum giving plenty of insight into the history of the city and area in general.

For sightseeing trips outside of the city, the Atlantic coastline is less than an hour’s drive away, with the popular town of A Coruña to the north. About 50 miles to the south is the important historical city of Vigo, with the Portuguese border being about a further 20 miles away. All of these options make serviced accommodation and self-catered apartments in Santiago de Compostela an excellent holiday choice.

Serviced and self-catered apartments, flats, holiday lets and aparthotels can be up to 30% cheaper than most equivalent hotel rooms and are becoming increasingly popular due to the freedom they offer. Whether it’s a short stay apartment you are looking for or a long term apartment, our holiday apartments combine all the amenities and comforts of home.
