The inconspicuous country of Slovenia has an interesting geographical location touching the Alps to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to its south west. It also shares borders with Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary and its population of 2 million people is one of the smallest in Europe. This former part of Yugoslavia has been independent since 1991 and has progressed to be the richest of all the Slavic states.
