Serviced Apartments in Castellón de la Plana

Castellón de la Plana is a city on the east coast of Spain, about 50 miles north of Valencia. Situated on the Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast), overlooking the Balearic Sea, it is the capital city of the local province of Castellón. Best known for its fine collection of Gothic and Moorish architecture, serviced apartments in Castellón de la Plana are much sought after, especially during the summer months.

The majority of the most famous and impressive historical buildings are to be found in the old town, especially in the vicinity of the main square, called Plaça Major. The most obvious landmark is the Concatedral de Santa Maria, or co-cathedral of Saint Mary, a Gothic cathedral with a chequered past. Originally built in the 13th century, the church first burnt down and then was demolished during the Spanish Civil War, only to be rebuilt twice in its history. It is still an impressive sight however and a definite trip from any Castellón de la Plana holiday rental.

Two other buildings give the city much of its character; the City Hall (Ajuntament) is around 300 years old and built in a more Roman style than its surroundings. Also, the city has a famous bell tower called El Fadrí (The Single Man) which can be seen from virtually any apartment rental in Castellón de la Plana. There are a number of other famous buildings and landmarks to be seen, some dating back to the 14th century.

Fans of the Spanish landscape will be pleased to know that one of the great attractions of the city is the Serra del Desert de les Palmes mountain range which overlooks the city from the north. The mountain range is only about 19 km long, having a highest peak of about 729 m, but is certainly a striking natural landmark. The mountains make an excellent day trip for walking trails and even sightseeing flights in small aircraft. Many tour operators are happy to pick you up from your Castellón de la Plana city centre (center) apartment and take you out to the mountains.

Another obvious day trip to take from your Castellón de la Plana apartment rental is to the largest city in the area, Valencia. Only about an hour's drive away, this is a hugely cultural and historical Spanish city and it would be a shame to miss the opportunity. Also, Barcelona and Zaragoza are also within driving distance, albeit 2 to 3 times further away.
