Oman

Possibly not a very well-known tourist destination, Oman is an Arab Sultanate on the south east tip of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen and has coasts on the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. Formerly under the occupation and influence of the Portuguese and British respectively, Oman has been independent since 1971 and is currently one of the most stable and well developed countries in the region. The national population is just over 3.6 million and the official language is Arabic, although English is also widely spoken in the larger cities and tourist resorts.

The capital city is Muscat is found on the coast of the Gulf of Oman on the north east tip of the country. It is also an important port for the country and is overlooked by the Al Hajar Mountains. Serviced apartments in Oman are found here and also in other large cities such as Salalah and Suhar. There are plenty of attractions and activities to enjoy in the country such as excellent scuba diving, whale watching, desert safari, caving and good old-fashioned sunbathing. There are a number of World Heritage sites for those fond of history and culture. The average temperature for the year is just under 24°C with the hottest weather coming in May, June and July.
