Serviced Apartments in Angoulême

Angoulême is a pleasant town in south west France and although it has no architecture of note, it has a lot of surprising features which you will enjoy when staying in an Angoulême holiday rental. Firstly, the medieval city walls have been replaced, but at the same height, with a wide esplanade, which is called Les Remparts. Because they are high up and go all round the town, you can use a walk here to get your bearings when staying in an Angoulême serviced flat. There are views right out over the countryside which are lovely whichever way you face.

The old town has been well kept up and is mostly a pedestrianised precinct, which is nice for the visitor. From your Angoulême holiday apartment you can wander out into the restaurant quarter for lunch or dinner and have plenty to choose from. The area is cobbled, so be careful of your ankles after a nice boozy dinner! The town has a very strong link with cartoons and animation and is proud that the creator of Tintin, Hergé, lived locally. Look at the walls when out for a walk from your Angoulême city centre (center) apartment because many of them are decorated in the style of a strip cartoon. There is even a statue to Hergé in the town.

Make sure you visit the covered market when out shopping while staying in an Angoulême serviced apartment. It was built originally on the site of the old jail and has been very recently refurbished. Most traders of the area sell here and it is well worth seeing. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Peter and was begun in the eleventh century and mostly finished in the twelfth. There have been on-going work on it ever since and most of the alterations were done in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Angoulême was a major centre of paper making, although less is done these days. Even non-smokers will be familiar with the Rizla+ brand, which originated in the town. There is a paper museum, which is really well worth a visit while you are in an Angoulême holiday let. Paper is such an everyday thing and it is interesting to see how it is made. From the peaceful world of paper, the town hosts a motor racing event round the Remparts in mid-September, with classic and vintage cars from all over Europe attending. If you are staying in an Angoulême apartment rental at that time, do attend – you don’t have to be a petrol head to enjoy the spectacle.

Serviced and self-catered apartments, flats, holiday lets and aparthotels can be up to 30% cheaper than most equivalent hotel rooms and are becoming increasingly popular due to the freedom they offer. Whether it’s a short stay apartment you are looking for or a long term apartment, our holiday apartments combine all the amenities and comforts of home.  With plenty of room why stay in a cramped hotel room when you can stay in spacious surroundings in and around Angouleme town centre.
