Serviced Apartments in Saint-Jean-de-Luz

Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a town located in the extreme south west of France, near to the border of Spain, just over 10 kilometres away. This is very much traditional Basque territorial and the city is in the middle of the province of Lapurdi or Labourd as it is also known. Booking a holiday rental in Saint-Jean-de-Luz really does give you the best of all three worlds, French, Spanish and Basque and you will be spoilt for choice in terms of culture and cuisine.

With a population of less than 15,000, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is largely a fishing port which has developed itself into a well-known holiday resort in the area. Built where the River Nivelle meets the Atlantic Ocean, the town has an attractive sandy bay and gorgeous waterfront. If you find an available serviced apartment in Saint-Jean-de-Luz on the waterfront be sure to book it quickly as these are the most sought after in town.

Overlooking the town is the mountain of Larrun or La Rhune (everything in these parts tends to be spelt in two or three different ways due to the convergence of different languages and cultures here). The mountain is 905 metres high and is located at the western end of the Pyrenees. A day trip from your holiday apartment in Saint-Jean-de-Luz to the mountaintop is one of the highlights of any holiday here as you take the journey aboard the Petit Train de la Rhune (Little Train of la Rhune). On the mountain itself you can view dozens of stone circles, dolmens and Neolithic monuments which play a key role in Basque mythology.

Closer to home, and the Jardin botanique littoral Paul Jovet public park is a beautiful example of botanical gardens. The park is open throughout the summer and charges a small admission fee to enter but it is well worth the money to enjoy the range of native and tropical plants on display. The garden is actually set atop a 50 metre high rocky cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and is accessible by foot from any Saint-Jean-de-Luz city centre (center) apartment.

Another absolutely spectacular sight to visit is the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste, a 17th-century church which has one of the most incredible interiors of any in France. The church is built in a neo-Gothic style and has an impressive 35 metre high steeple. Just a short walk from many Saint-Jean-de-Luz aparthotels, this is certainly a destination not to be missed.
