Serviced Apartments in Montevideo

Renting a serviced apartment or holiday letting in Uruguay’s capital city gives you access to an eclectic mix of historical buildings and modern high rises, soft, sandy beaches, dimly lit cafes that ooze nostalgic charm, salsa dancing and excellent wine. What more could you ask for.

A great place to start your exploration of this wonderful South American city is Ciudad Vieja, Old City. Enter Ciudad Vieja through an old walled gateway, Puerta de la Ciudadela, then take a stroll through this most historic region of Montevideo, wander through Plaza Independencia, the palm lined square at the heart of Old City. Here you will find the tomb and statue of Uruguay’s greatest hero, Jose Artigas. The tomb is situated below ground and is watched over 24 hours a day by an honour guard. The statue itself stands an impressive 17 metres tall. Also in the square you will find the Palacio Estevez. This beautiful 18th century building was used as a government house until fairly recently and don't forget to take a look at Catedral Matriz, a lovely structure built in the early 1800s boasting exquisite domed bell towers.

Take a walk along the narrow streets and view some wonderful Art Deco and colonial style architecture, you will also find open air stalls here selling fresh produce as well as local artisans selling their works.

Admittedly some of the buildings here are crumbling and going into disrepair and certain areas could do with a bit of a clean up but there are plans in place to start the repairs which will make this enchanting time warp an even lovelier place to visit.

Your serviced residence or aparthotel in Montevideo also gives you access to El Musio Nacional de Artes Visuales where you can view some wonderful pieces and discover the incredible creativity of the people of this region. A real taste of local art.

Enjoy a tour around Castillo Viejo Winery, sample some of the superb wines, watch the process of wine making and see how the wines are stored and aged and then, at the end of your tour, why not treat yourself to a bottle or two.

A superb little restaurant that is within walking distance of your apartment rental or holiday let in Montevideo is La Corte. Situated in Old City this lovely eatery provides delicious local cuisine, excellent service, an extensive wine cellar, great ambience and really good value for money. Well worth a visit.
