Serviced Apartments in Sines

Sines is one of Portugal’s biggest ports and industrial centres and first impressions of this town may leave you a little disappointed, with the oil refinery looming and large tankers in the port but, if you scratch the surface and look past all the industrial buildings, you will actually find quite an attractive region that could well be a very pleasant place for a rented serviced apartment or holiday letting.

The old quarter gives you an idea of how this region looked not so very long ago, when it was just a humble fishing village. Here you will see the delightful architecture of picturesque dwellings with terracotta roofs and look out for the Nossa Senhora das Salas, a pretty fisherman’s chapel built in the 1300s. This chapel was renovated by Portugal’s famous explorer Vasco da Gama who was also born in the castle of this town. Take a trek up to the impressive 13th century castle where you can take a walk along the battlements and enjoy spectacular views of the bay. The castle also houses a small museum that is well worth a browse.

The Parish church, Igreja Matriz, houses the relics of St. Torpes. It is believed that these relics were recovered from a ship that had run aground and been abandoned in AD45. Quite an impressive sight and whilst you’re here you can also view the statue of Vasco da Gama standing proudly outside the church.

A serviced residence or aparthotel in Sines also gives you access to the lovely little village of Porto Covo nearby. This village boasts many historical buildings and is worthy of a few hours of exploring, perhaps stop off for a spot of lunch while you are here.

Sines is also host to the annual music festival, Festival Musicas do Mundo. This famous festival attracts literally thousands of musicians from all over the world and to be staying in this region at the time of the festival would be a real privilege and a truly unforgettable experience.

For the perfect place to eat that is just a stones throw from your apartment rental or self-catered apartment in Sines take a stroll over to Adega de Sines. Here they serve traditional Portuguese cuisine that is both extremely tasty and really good value for money. The service is excellent and the charcoal cooked chicken and sardines are absolutely delicious.
