Serviced Apartments in Lisbon

The proud and impressive capital city of Portugal, Lisbon is a real treat for those considering renting a serviced apartment or holiday letting in this region. The city sprawls along seven hills and down to their feet where the Tejo River runs along her side. Much of the lower part of the city was destroyed in the 1700s by earthquake, tidal wave and fire and sadly 40,000 people also lost their lives. Much of the architecture in this part of the city is no more than 250 years old although there are some small areas that were untouched and have remained much the same as they would have been in days gone by.

One such district that did survive the earthquake and disasters that followed is Alfama and this is now Lisbon’s oldest district. Here you will find a winding maze of narrow streets that are totally inaccessible by car. This historically beautiful part of the city also boasts some magnificent architecture including the Castle of St. Jorge and is most definitely worth a visit.

The mix of old and new buildings give this city it’s wonderful character and this has still remained a very traditional region. You can expect to see women walking the streets in traditional dress and the markets hark back to older times. The earthquake ravaged ruins of Convento do Carmo, still show signs of how impressive she must have been in her day with her graceful pillars and archways. This medieval convent is now home to an Archaeological Museum that is also worth a browse.

A serviced residence or aparthotel in Lisbon also gives you access to Jardim Zoologico where you can view some 200 species of animal, enjoy a bird’s eye view of the zoo in a cable car and watch some of the entertaining shows providing a fun packed day for all the family.
The children may also enjoy a visit to Lisbon Oceanarium where they can marvel at 450 different species of aquatic life including some rather intimidating sharks.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat that is within walking distance of your Lisbon apartment rental or holiday let then look no further than Flor da Laranja. This cosy restaurant serves delicious Moroccan cuisine and the entire establishment is run by just one woman. Her stuffed vine leaves and chicken with preserved lemons are just exquisite and if you are lucky you may catch a spot of belly dancing too.
