Serviced Apartments in Oostende

Oostende (also spelt Ostend) is a port city on the Belgian coast which is well-known for its beach, sea front and working docks. Not many people expect to find such a nice beach in Belgium, but Oostende certainly takes many people by surprise with its large sandy seafront and pier. Being one of the few native seaside resorts available to Belgians, holiday rentals in Oostende are very popular, filling up fast during the summer season.

The seaside esplanade and pier certainly dominate the sea-side of the city but there is plenty more to see besides. There is a famous old sailing ship called the Mercator open to the public to view; originally built in 1932, the ship has long and distinguished history, most recently used as a training ship for the Belgian Merchant Navy. The ship is now docked in the marina in front of City Hall, and is easily accessed from any Oostende City centre (center) apartment.

As with much of the Flemish province of West Flanders there is plenty of impressive architecture to be seen, especially in the Gothic style. One of the best examples to visit from your Oostende serviced accommodation is the Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk (Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul), the most impressive church in the city. This church, however, is a little bit of a cheat, actually being a fine example of neo-Gothic architecture, having been built between 1899 and 1908. Nevertheless it is a striking landmark with two 72 m high spires.

Back to the beach and July and August are the most popular month for tourists. Many Belgians visit the town via train for a day trip and find themselves on the Kleinstrand, the closest beach to the train station. However if you are staying in a Oostende holiday letting this summer, follow the locals and spend your time on the Grootstrand; a larger and more spacious alternative. Take a walk down the impressive pier to view the ferries coming and going into port, most of which come from the English town of Ramsgate.

You shouldn't end up spending much time in your Oostende serviced residence as there are plenty more sights to visit. Other examples of city landmarks are the impressive municipal park with its tower and lake and the Kapucijnenstraat - a small but very popular local establishment. Also make sure you visit The Peperbusse, a church tower without a church on the bottom (it was taken from what remained of a burned down Church).

Serviced and self-catered apartments, flats, holiday lets and aparthotels can be up to 30% cheaper than most equivalent hotel rooms and are becoming increasingly popular due to the freedom they offer. Whether it’s a short stay apartment you are looking for or a long term apartment, our holiday apartments combine all the amenities and comforts of home.
