Leuven is the capital of Flemish Brabant in Belgium, about 20 miles east of the capital Brussels. This is a very historical city with its educational establishments being particularly well respected. As a very popular educational city, Leuven is absolutely full of students during the academic year. Even if you are not an academic type yourself, you may still fancy visiting the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven) which is not only the oldest Catholic university still in existence in the world, but also largest university in Belgium. Unsurprisingly, it is university buildings and library are rather grand and striking examples, and are very close to Leuven City centre (center) apartments.

Speaking of impressive buildings and you should certainly take a trip from your Leuven serviced apartment to the town hall. There can be very few buildings in the low country as impressive as this 15th century Brabantic/Gothic style example. The building is covered in delicate and ornate architecture, with what some describe as almost lace-like detail. Another fine building from the same era is St Peters Church. Built in the same style but with a less intricate facade, this is still an impressive building situated in the main market square of the city.

If you have a particular interest in business (and possibly beer) you may be interested to know that Anheuser-Busch InBev, the world's largest brewer has its worldwide headquarters here in Leuven. This company is probably best known for its Stella Artois brand and tours through the brewery are available. Of course, taking a few bottles of authentic Belgian beer back to your Leuven serviced accommodation is also a rather good idea!

Leuven is also very well situated for day trips to various other towns and cities in the area. Brussels and Mechelen are roughly an equal distance away to the east and have plenty to see. Travelling in the other direction from your Leuven aparthotel you could take a trip to smaller towns such as Tienen with its striking Flemish architecture, or Aarschot which has some excellent vineyards and wine tasting in the area.
